DETROIT ROCK CITY
Rated "R"

From New Line Cinema comes a coming-of-age story that rocks four worlds.
Edward Furlong, Giuseppe Andrews, Sam Huntington and newcomer James De Bello star in the story of four Midwestern High Schoolers on an unstoppable quest to snag a quartet of KISS concert tickets. Over the course of one magical night, each undergoes a harrowing and hilarious experience as their insatiable desire to see their favorite band is pitted against authoritarian nightmares, parental hypocrisy, trials of conscience and the persistent influence of disco. What begins as the passionate pursuit of a rock and roll fantasy turns into a series of hair-pin turns and comic misadventures with one over-riding goal:
the liberty to pursue their own dreams.

OUR REVIEW

In 1978, KISS was the end-all, be-all of rock bands. And for four teenagers, getting to their Detroit City concert is a number one priority. After a stick-in-the-mud mother burns their 4 tickets to the concert of the year, Hawk, Lex, Trip and Jam set out on a mission to win, buy, steal or scam those tickets. The movie has a good pace and lots of surprising laughs. Whether you are a KISS fan or not, the teenagers' antics lead to some great moments.

THUMBS UP
Jim Bartoo

...Ultimately Rifkin has put together a film that is both entertaining and occasionally touching. Though far from rocket science, "Detroit Rock City" is a very fun time and may even have audiences digging out that old vinyl copy of "Love Gun."

THUMBS...down?

...But for all of Rifkin's jumpcuts and split-screen gimmickry, there's a strange lack of energy in Detroit Rock City. That is, until the last five minutes, when KISS finally takes the stage. When it comes to entertaining through shock tactics, you can't beat the pros.
