Did
you watch?
The longest recorded show in
Oscar history, it ran at 4 hours and 8 minutes. Of course,
if you were like us, your Oscar day started earlier than that.
E! had Oscar related shows all day...we started our day at
about 2 o'clock, with the countdown to the Red Carpet walk...starting
with, of course, Joan and Melissa Rivers.
Now Melissa has class...she was
dressed beautifully, spoke well of the nominees and the attendees...however,
did you listen to Joan Rivers this year??
She brings catty to a whole new meaning...called bitchy.
And I must say, for the woman who critiques what other people
wear, didn't she have the slightest clue that HER dress wasn't
totally appropriate for her?? She fell on my "worst dressed"
list for this year. (Of course, I couldn't find a picture
of her...) The dress was beautiful, just not right for her.
I've listed my favorite and least
favorites further down, with pictures to illustrate. I
will say, Gwyneth was a surprise...I normally like her look,
but this just didn't flatter her all that much, in my opinion.
I thought Ashley Judd looked beautiful, as well as Muriel
Hemingway and Faith Hill. Lucy Liu always has a great sense
of style.
I will admit, for myself, I missed seeing the
big name stars coming down the isle. This definitely seemed
to be the year of the Newcomer. The Best Actress going to
Hillary Swank was a surprise...and I'm a big Annette Benning
fan, so I was hoping she would get it. And I also hoped for
our friend from The Sixth Sense, Haley Joel Osment for Best
Supporting Actor...but I'm not in the Academy, and my vote
doesn't count. :)

As far as the show itself goes, I thought it
was better without the interpretive dance numbers, and I liked
the montages. However, the music montage was too long. And
speaking of the music montage, did you know that Whitney Houston
was supposed to perform?? She cancelled at the last minute,
claiming a sore throat, which left Faith Hill with the task
of performing her song with less than 24 hours. Which song?
I honestly don't know...you couldn't tell.
Cher was a presenter, a surprise one at that,
and dressed in a beautiful black gown. She came out, stating,
"I am dressed like an adult, I apologize and I will never
do it again."
Now, my favorite part of the show, I must admit
was Billy Crystal's "I know what you are thinking"...where
he showed pictures of stars sitting in the audience, and read
their thoughts aloud. For Jack Nicholson, it was simply, "I
am still the coolest guy in the room."
I noticed that our resident Oscar Hero, Willy
Fulgear also looked quite dapper in his new suit and hat,
sitting with his son watching the Oscars. Glad to see the
Academy stepped up to the proverbial podium and did the right
thing.
All in all, it was entertaining...I would have
liked to see more of Billy Crystal..I would have liked to
see more "big" names...but it was a good Sunday.
