Sometimes innocent,
sometimes passionate,
the love winds
its way
up the stem,
branching out
in the crisp leaves,
in the menacing thorns.
SOmetimes curious
at the intense pain
it is capable
of inflicting.
Sometimes dangerous,
consuming all,
leaving nothing
but the barren leaf
without the beauty.
Somewtimes relentless
in its ruthless demands
to find more,
to never stop searching.
Sometimes tainted,
killing the trusting roots
with lies and deceit.
Sometimes forgiving,
tentatively reclimbinb
to face the wondrous sunshine
it once believed in.
Sometimes tender,
coming to life
in a simple bud,
with the promise of softness
and beauty beyond belief.
Sometimes enchanted,
nurtuing the fragile bud
into the rose,
giving of its beauty and grace
believing in its myth.
Sometimes magical,
willing it to grow,
enhancing its brilliance,
coming alive in
the petals of the rose.

Floating in mindess air
Afraid to fall, unable to fly
We cling to the wings of fear
Never knowing the reasons why.
The wall has broken,
Yet once again a stone sets us apart.

To flee the shadows
To escape the silence
You must fly the stars
And find the flame.

Visions of your arms
Holding in tender care
Broken in heart,
suffocated in mind
To unlesh the storms,
our love we must dare.
Once the ice has melted,
In dreams we are free.
To flee the shadows
To escape the silence
You must fly the stars
And find the flame.

Come fly with me
Hide from the shadows,
Let my arms protect you,
The voice of silence
Lends a scream
Hearts of souls learning to love again.
Freedome within a vision
Of a faraway heaven.

To flee the shadows
To escape the silence
You must leave the stars
And become the flame.

Giving courage,
the smile in your eyes,
I feel so must trust.
A look so full,
an embrace meant to last.
Could I leave you?
One touch
is never enough,
so careful,
so guared.
Passion encumbered
only by last minute regrets.
Nothing else should matter,
our dreams together,
a vision we both share.
Could I leave you?
My shoulder to cry on,
my hand that caresses,
your heart receives,
my arms that comfort.
Could I leave you?
Giving freedom,
so much pain
never intended,
so much love
not taken away.
I leave you
yet I give you my heart.
Forever a part
belonging to you.
~JMS 1995

Your eyes as green as jade,
with just a touch of laughter,
with a smile that warms my heart,
you have given of yourself
to love me.
Your arms tightly held,
your shoulder for my head to rest,
you have sheltered my tears
and kept me safe.
WIthout your warmth
to caress my heart,
without the love so freely given,
my word seems a colder place.
I long to touch your face,
to kiss your lips,
to feel your heart beating
to compliment mine.
Once we shared a life,
once we gave only to each other,
now without you to hold,
the lonely nights never end.
I can see your face in my dreams,
your arms held open, love in your eyes,
A smile reaches my heart
Until I awaken, alone once again.
The days can go quickly,
the same one after another,
until darkness descends,
where my heart is trapped.
Masked faces dance before me,
laughing at my pain,
reveling in my anger.
Across the room you stand,
watching my fall.
You whisper my name,
your hand stretches across,
only to disappear.
Of your love,
you give all.
Of yourself,
you give none.
~ JMS 1993

Once again I find myself
Held deep within your grasp
And the pain we once suffered
seems buried in the past.

Your love is so new to me
And yet I always knew it was meant to be
We both had some growing up to do
Before we could love for all to see.

You've become so important to my life,
I've grown to need your tenderness and care
You live in half of my heart
And the other half is always for us to share.

I want you to know who you are
And always believe that I'm here to stay.
For my mornings are complete
Only if I know you'll pass my way.

I long to be with you night and day
To be the one you turn to
And help you to understand there is no one else
Who fills me with love the way you do.

Someday when all our fears are gone
When all the doubts have been erased
you'll hold me in your arms
And once again we'll find the dreams we've chased.
~JMS 1993

Once there was hope
In a faraway place
Where dreams were for dreamers
And love was for fools.

Staring in the skies
Knowing I could fly
Wondering where to run to
When I heard your cry.

It was silent in my mind
A desperate thought sent to me
Telling of a fool
Who held love to see.

I wanted to soar above the world
To search for your call
But fear held me back,
Alone, I was afraid to fall.

A quiet whisper I heard
You held out your heart,
And gave me wings to fly on
So we'd no longer be apart.

I knew once I found you
I'd find heaven in your eyes,
We could soar with the eagles
And chase stars through the skies.

Once we found hope
From a faraway voice
Where dreams could be heard
And love could rejoice.

Snowflakes
in silvery patterns
twirling,
shimmering,
winking as if sharing a secret,
the tiny tree
streamed with lights,
twinkling,
promising of joys
yet to come,
a Christmas sonnet
serenading,
reminding of dreams
of wishes...
only her,
only him,
a holiday
by the faintest
slight of hand
their first to share.
Lovers
and friends,
they held,
they revered
all they had to give.
Their only gifts
were each other,
this holiday more
than their first tradition
but a promise
that led to forever.

I've seen the world
through the eyes
of anger,
survived
through the bitterness.
Now I've learned
through the eyes of love
to see the simple pleasures
that mean so much.
A squirrel
climbing a tree,
a dolphin
jumping the waves,
A glance
in your eyes
that reaches my soul.
A look,
a touch,
a feeling returned.
Passion known
never underestimating
what you mean,
never forgetting
who we are.
So fragile,
so tender,
so real,
forever.
It started with a hug
you earned my trust
slowly,
carefully,
you held it,
loved it,
respected it.
Never once
taken for granted,
misused,
or damaged.
The roots keep building,
one after another,
they bury further
and further
into my heart,
too many to break,
never a thought to try.
From trust
stems love
becomes
Forever.

Lights were twinkling
tinsel was sparkling
the spirit of Christmas
present in every thought,
every song.
A family gathered
from morning till night
their time together
the most precious there was
to have.
Christmas carols were heard
with the sounds of a piano,
the solos of the guitars,
every note
became another memory.
Friends gathered to celebrate
laughing and teasing
the happiness of the season
bringing them closer.
Stories were told,
a holiday giving reason
to remember the times
they shared.
The voices became bells,
the laughter became chimes,
for in the spirit of Christmas
love is the only gift
worth giving.

Through so many years
there you were beside me,
always willing
to give everything you had
to end my pain.
Through the roughest times
we've held each other,
each one of us taking turns at loving
and being loved.
Through love and laughter
we've healed the wounds
that constant change
has created
and recreated.
Through all the confusion
we knew there were answers
that as mother and daughter we'd search for
and as friends, we'd find.

The years have gone by
The friendship has held fast
No one knows better than us
How much of our lives stems from the past.

You were there for me through thick and thin
You were my childhood friend
We've learned to separate the good from the bad
And together we still come out in the end.

The separation we will endure as before
We'll always be close at heart
So even though the miles are between us
They won't tear our friendship apart.

You will always be my friend and confidante
We can never forget the promises we've told
We'll keep building on what we have now
Always more memories arise for us to hold.

So much has gone into our lives
We've cried as others have left
Yet the truth forever stands tall
The best of the best, our friendship has kept.

As the winds raged faster and faster
As the surf pounded angrily against the shore
I sat on the sand, holding in my fears
Still knowing that somewhere there was more.

As the couples strolled the beach
As I wandered from end to end
I thought of what I knew I could be
And dreamed of those clouds from which I'd descend.

As I heard the gentle fall of winter's rain
As I lovingly watched a pink rose grow
I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I had found
My dreams were there, waiting for me to show.

As I watched the sun sink into the horizon
As I prayed for the tiny crab crawling the sands
I felt such a peaceful love overwhelm me
I knew I held a dream in my hands.

As I felt the purity and innocence of the sunset
As I mourned the end of the sun's glory
My heart and soul had found their home
And my dreams were alive in nature's beauty.
